Mahenge Spinel

Mahenge spinel is among the rarest of coloured stones. It comes from one small area in Tanzania, where a single remarkable find in 2007 gave the world its first look at this colour. Very little has come out of the ground since, and stones above three carats are seldom seen.
Spinel is almost never treated, so the colour you see is the colour the stone came out of the earth with. These five are natural, each one chosen for its colour. Tap any stone to watch it move in the light.
